The Right Way to Use cleansing oil

By: admin

Nowadays, skincare influencers and cleansing oil advertisements often show excessively rubbing the face. However, this is an incorrect method. Let’s explore the proper way to use cleansing oils.

Do I need to use cleansing oil everyday?

The answer is depends on your skin type.

However, unless you have extremely oily skin, using cleansing oils 2-4 times a week is generally sufficient.

If you have dry skin, you should reduce frequency of use cleansing oil.
If you have combination skin with oil T-zone, you can use more frequently for T-zone.

While excess oil can cause various skin troubles, it also plays a protective role for the skin.

That’s the reason why the oil-moisture balance is so important for skin health.

Vigorously rub your face

Oil dissolves oil. While cleansing oils are essential for removing sebum and blackheads, as mentioned earlier, their purpose is to dissolve the oil and impurities, not to physically extract them through vigorous rubbing.

The less irritation to the skin, the better. While vigorous rubbing may remove more sebum, it is detrimental to overall skin health.

In the past, there was a trend in Korea called “nose packs” – sticky sticker-like products used to extract blackheads from the nose. While they were popular for a time and are still used by some, I believe they are an extremely poor method. The more irritation the skin endures, the thinner it becomes, leading to various issues such as wrinkles and dark spots.

Double cleansing?

Some people use only cleansing oils. Cleansing oils do not rinse off completely with just water.
After using a cleansing oil, it is recommended to follow up with a water-based cleansing foam to remove any residual oil thoroughly.

Leaving cleansing oil residue can potentially cause skin troubles and hinder the absorption of subsequent skincare products applied to the face.

Here is a right way to use cleansing oil

  1. Apply cleansing oil on your face gently.
  2. Wait for 1~3 min to dissolve the sebum.
  3. Lightly dampen your fingertips with water and gently roll over your face.
  4. Rinse with water, then cleanse again using a water-based cleansing foam.
